The Heat4Cool testing will be performed in two different types of levels: building and district. The building level encompasses three buildings located in three different countries, whereas the district level will be represented by one district involving the use of communal wastewater. The first step of the testing will include the integration of the system in a testing facility designed especially for the testing of new energy efficiency solutions. The name of this infrastructure is KUBIK and it is located in Derio, Spain. The main characteristic of KUBIK is the capability to build realistic scenarios (residential, office, schools) to analyse the energy efficiency obtained from the holistic interaction of the constructive solution for the envelope, the intelligent management of the HVAC and lighting systems and the supply from renewable energy.
Building in Ravda (Bulgaria)
This residential building is located in the city of Ravda (Bulgaria). The climate in Ravda is warm and temperate. Ravda is a city with a significant rainfall. This climate is considered to be Cfa according to the Köppen-Geiger climate classification. The average temperature is 12,9 °C. About 559 mm of precipitation falls annually. This building has 24 flats with built-up area of 1388,94 m2. Its main façade is east oriented. Heating and cooling of the building premises are performed by split air conditioning. The heating consumption of the air source heat pumps is 111.120 kWh_e. The primary energy consumption and total thermal energy demand is 277.800 kWh/year, which gives a value of around 200 kWh/m2 per year.
Building in Valencia (Spain)
This residential building is located in the city centre of Valencia (Spain). It has a Suptropical Mediterranean climate with very mild winters and long warm to hot summers. The annual average temperature is 17,8 °C. This block of 20 flats was constructed in 2001. The living (considering the 4 floors) area is 985,02 m2. The building ́s main façade is oriented to the west. The building has a centralized natural gas boiler and there are no installed RES for heating or electricity. The heating consumption of the gas boiler is 61.563 kWh_th. The primary energy consumption is 61.563 kWh/year, while the total thermal energy demand is 46.250 kWh/year. This gives a value of heating demand of 50 kWh/m2year
Building in Warsow (Poland)
This residential building is located in Warsaw (Poland). Warsaw’s climate is humid continental with cold, snowy, cloudy winters and warm, sunny, stormy summers, on the border with an oceanic climate. The average year temperature is 8,5 °C. This block of 4 floors composed by 38 flats was constructed in 1996. The living area is 2.111 m2. The building has a centralized natural gas boiler and there are no installed RES for heating or electricity. The heating consumption of the gas boiler is 659.688 kWh_th. The primary energy consumption is 659.688 kWh/year, though the total thermal energy demand is less: 527.750 kWh/year. This gives a value of heating demand of 250 kWh/m2year
District in Budhapest (Hungary)
The project includes the design and realisation of a heat pump based Thermowatt system solution that would use communal wastewater to heat and cool buildings around the St. Stephan Square in District 4. A 1,7 MW system is to be built out that would serve the parallely constructed new Market buildings, the Mayor’s office and an administration building. This district heating consumption is 1.700.000 kWh_e, the energy demanded is around 4.250.000 kWh. With a heating surface of 17.000m2, the heating demand per m2 is equal to 250 kWh.
